Borough Council consists of seven voting members and the Mayor, who votes only in the case of ties. The nonvoting members of Council are the Borough Secretary, the Borough Manager, The Borough Solicitor and the Borough Engineer. The Council is headed by the President, who is elected from the seven voting members.

The Council is well-structured and organized, and is never too busy to deal with individual problems of the Borough residents. The Borough Manager is the main link to Council for information and data, and can be reached at the Borough Office, 45 Keeley Avenue, on Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Borough Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Borough Hall, 56 Keeley Avenue.

The Planning Commission meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough Office, 45 Keeley Avenue. There are seven members, headed by a chairman, and their duties include the review of all land use and construction plans.
Our Commission works with the County Planning Commission to develop uniformity between the Borough and the County. Recommendation by the Planning Commission are then forwarded to Borough Council for review and action.

The Zoning Hearing Board meets at Borough Hall, 56 Keeley Avenue, on the third Thursday of the month if a case is scheduled. The board is a judicial body composed of five voting members and two alternates, all appointed by Borough Council, and legal counsel. Its hearings are open to the public and the proceedings are similar to any judicial court. The Board's main function is to hear cases appealed from decision of the zoning officer. The board may uphold the zoning officer's decision or may allow a variance or special exception regarding the case in question. A fee is required from the applicant to request such a hearing. Adjoining property owners are formally notified of the hearing and any Borough residents are always welcome to attend and express their point of view.

The Zoning Officer is appointed by Borough Council. His duties are to enforce the zoning code, receive and examine all applications for zoning permits, including applications for special exceptions and variances. The Officer also conducts inspections to determine compliance with the zoning code, issues cease and desist orders when necessary, and directs, in writing, the correction of any conditions found to be in violation of the provisions of the zoning code. The Zoning Officer also maintains a map showing the correct zoning classification of all lands in the Borough.

The Building Inspector is responsible for on-site inspection of new construction, renovations and alterations to existing buildings. New Britain Borough uses the International Construction Code, and inspections are made to insure compliance with all the codes.

The Fire Marshal investigates any suspicious fires and works with the fire company and the county fire marshal when needed. He also conducts on-site inspections pertaining to any potentially dangerous conditions that may occur in the Borough. This is done not only to protect the people directly associated with the condition but also any adjoining property owners that could be affected.

The Tax Collector does not levy the taxes, only collects them. The notices are issued March 1st, for the Borough and the County, and July 1st for the School District. State and Federal taxes are not under the jurisdiction of the local collector. Elected term of office four years. Name and hours are located under the heading "Borough Administration.
